Indonesian father and dutch mother, Jody was born a traditional Algarve man. At first he was afraid of the water but once was forced to get in with a pair of goggles and from that day on the fear became a chronic passion. Spear fishing is more than a sport, it’s a way of living. He started in competitions when he was 11 and in 2004 he had his first National Championship in Vila Nova de Milfontes. Four years later his first time on an international competition in Venezuela. In 2011 he won the Euro African Championship in Peniche and a year later in Vigo he was the first Portuguese to ever win the title of World Champion of Spear Fishing. This competition had 19 countries and 56 athletes. Awkwardly, only in 2013 did he get his first National title of Champion and again in 2014.
Testimony: “I have visited and competed in different countries Croatia, Italy, Peru, Norway and Finland and they all are beautiful, but none of them is like Portugal. Our coast – south and west – is wonderful and rich. Very different from each other they offer different experiences of spear fishing. And if the Portuguese fish is the best in the world? No doubt! There’s no fish like ours. Portugal doesn’t need much to have the best fish and Portimão
